Chongmukwan in Amsterdam has been around since 2003. We teach the Korean martial arts of hapkido, hankido and hankumdo. In 2014 we have also opened up a school in Almere. As a member of our club you can train both in Amsterdam and in Almere.
The Korean name of our school is ‘Chongmukwan’ which means; Righteous Martial Arts School. On the right you can see the name of our school written in Chinese characters.
We teach traditional no-nonsense self defense in a relaxed environment. After class you can join us for a drink in a local pub and once and a while we organize other fun activities as well.
Instructor Klaas Barends (6th dan) is the head instructor of Chongmukwan and runs several schools in the Netherlands. As an international instructor of the World Hanki Martial Arts Federation (WHMAF) he is also the technical supervisor of several organisations in other European countries.
Klaas is a student of master Ko Baek-yong (9th dan) of the Sangmukwan International H.K.D. Training Center in Seoul. Master Ko Baek-yong visits our school regularly to share his knowledge. Our students get the chance to join both national and international seminars. Once every two years we organize a training trip to South-Korea.
